We monitor the dogs constantly throughout the day so that
we can tell immediately who needs more or less rest
or exercise, extra one~on~one time or really special TLC.

For dogs who are more interested in being around people,
we have private areas where they can get the attention
they need without having to put up
with our rowdier clientele.

This is a very labor intensive way of caring for your dog,
and it can only be offered by a very committed,
dedicated, carefully supervised, and well educated staff.

A Typical Day at the B&B
Times are approximate, and each dog's day is tailored to meet his or her specific needs.
6:00 am - 8:00 am ~ Early Morning Turn Outs & Treats
9 am ~ Breakfast & Rest
11 am - 5:30 pm ~ Play Groups, "All About Me Days*," Swimming* & Treats
6:30 pm ~ Dinner & Rest
8:00 until 10 pm ~ Play Groups & Nighttime Turnouts
10:00 - 11:00pm ~ Good Night Biscuits, Massages* & Tuck Ins

Since kennel time is so limited, the dogs are subjected to
miminal stress and boredom.

We make sure that our B&Bers go home tired and happy

but you're also welcome to bring your dog's
own personal favorites.*

We feed only healthy, natural dog foods and
treats made from human quality meats & grains --
no fillers, by-products, or chemical preservatives.

*Since we can't guarantee that personal items will go home in the same
condition in which they arrived...

We have plenty of treats, Nylabones,
bedding and toys to save you
a last minute trip to the petstore.

the little details that go into creating the
Total Pawsitive Energy Experience!

The Park & Bark Shuttle
Seats on the shuttle are by reservation only, and require confirmation by 5:00 pm the day of drop off/pick up. The shuttle is available on Mondays and Fridays, between 6 & 7 pm, and the shuttle stop is in Hilliard, just off Fishinger Road in The Market at Mill Run.

Checking In
Please feel free to call as often as you'd like while your dog is staying with us. If you can't reach me, just leave a message with a contact phone number and I'll be in touch as soon as possible to let you know how your pup is doing. If you don't hear from me within a few hours, it generally means we're very busy with the dogs. Feel free to keep calling until you reach me.

The First Few Days Back Home
Don't be surprised if your dog spends a few days lounging around the house after his/her B&B stay or Day Camp visit. All the fresh air and exercise, as well as all the new sights, sounds and smells will generally wear him/her out ~ but then, that's probably why you chose Pawsitive Energy in the first place!

It's not unusual for a dog to have some type of minor digestive upset when s/he gets home from any kennel or boarding facility -- or even after having a dog sitter. Just like when we humans go on vacation, the change in food, routine, exercise, and any stress - even fun stress! - can lead to a disruption in the balance of intestinal bacteria, and that can cause soft stool and diarrhea.

If your dog tends to have a sensitive tummy, it's best to provide your own food so your dog's digestive system has one less thing to adjust to.

It's also often helpful to feed light meals for the first couple of days to help ease your dog's transition back into her old routine. You can even add live culture, plain full fat yogurt to help increase beneficial intestinal flora to get his tummy back in shape.

If your dog has not been exposed to other dogs enough to develop a strong immune system, s/he will be more susceptible to the common viruses that go around in any group environment - kind of like a baby in day care or children when they first go back to school in the fall. These are generally very mild upper respiratory infections, eye irritations, etc., that may take a quick visit to the vet for treatment. The good news is that the more your dog is exposed, the stronger her immune system becomes - again, just like a baby.

Remember that we have horses, and horses have a distinctive smell! While I happen to think it's the best smell in the world, not everyone agrees or wants their dog coming home smelling like a farm critter. In addition, the dogs spend a lot of time playing outside, so they do get dirty. (Some people judge how good of a time their dog had by how dirty s/he is when they pick him/her up!) If you'd like, we would be happy to bathe your dog before s/he goes home. Just let us know you'd like to schedule a bath and your dog will come home "Ready for His/Her Own Bed."

If the possibility of any of these things is a concern that isn't outweighed by the fun and special attention your dog will have while s/he's with us, you may want to consider hiring a sitter rather than boarding your dog. To us, the most important thing is for every dog to stay whereever s/he will be happiest!

Never hesitate to call if you have concerns.

Veterinary Care
Please make sure you specify an amount for emergency care in the event I am not able to reach you. Based on our experience with our own dogs, we recommend a minimum of $500.

If an amount is not specified, I will use my best judgment regarding veterinary care. We will use either a local vet or MedVet, depending on the nature of the emergency. We will also contact your vet for his/her opinion, records, etc., if appropriate.

I do not hesitate to take a dog to the vet if I have any concerns, particularly in the case of older dogs or puppies. We are extremely careful with these dogs to make sure they don't get overly tired while they're with us, but just being away from home, even if they're having a great time, can cause digestive upsets, respiratory infections, etc., and it's always best to catch these things early.

We do not require specific vaccinations. There is much ongoing disagreement in the veterinary community regarding the safety and effectiveness of different vaccination protocols. For this reason, I feel the decision regarding vaccinations should be between you, your dog, and your vet, and not something that any boarding facility should mandate. Please read more at "How We're "Holistic."

Because of our natural and holistic approach, we find that our business attracts clients who take the absolute best care of their dogs, and everyone who stays at the B&B is in excellent health.

Food & Treats
We are happy to feed the food you provide (especially if its a healthy, natural food ~ by the way, it's very helpful for us if you label all food containers, scoops, etc.), however, unless your dog has a health reason why s/he needs special treats, we would prefer to feed all our B&Ber's our One Earth Naturals Oat & Molasses Treats. (We've done a lot of treat research, and these are the winners of our taste test competition.) Treat~time gets very complicated otherwise!

We offer Canidae dog food to our B&B guests. It's made from human grade ingredients, with no chemical preservatives, fillers or by-products. Dogs' tummies seem to adjust to it very well, with little digestive upset.

A Note About Flea Treatments
For the safety of your dog's playmates, we request that any spot-on flea products are applied at least one week prior to your dog's B&B stay or Day Camp visit.

We do not allow dogs who attend Pawsitive Energy to wear flea collars.

Collars, ID Tags & Leashes
For safety, we use only plastic snap collars. If your dog wears any other type of collar, we will replace it with one of ours to wear while s/he is staying at the B & B. If possible, please take your buckle or chain collar and/or leash with you when you leave.

Your dog will also wear a Pawsitive Energy ID tag when s/he is with us. Please feel free to keep our tags on his/her collar after his/her stay. We maintain a record of all our guests and are happy to serve as a back up contact if your dog were ever to get lost. (We once got a 1:00 am call from Vashon Island - off the coast of Washington state - and were able to help reunite the dog with his guardians within an hour.)

Bedding & Toys
While the beds we use are pretty comfortable, most dogs appreciate a nice soft piece of home to snuggle into. We suggest bringing a blanket or old bed ~ something you won't mind if it goes home torn, chewed or otherwise damaged ~ or just totally annihilated. Ditto for toys.
